Video Jug

This is an interesting little site. The concept is "Life Explained Through Videos". And some of the video topics are really interesting. And funny.

Video Jug

I particularly liked "How to Hide an Unwanted Erection".

Married to the Sea

Another thing I got from a coworker. Entertaining coworkers I have, eh?

Married to the Sea

Lindsay Lights

I know that there are many people out there who do impressive holiday light displays (including a couple families in the town I grew up in), but I've decided to highlight one that I think is particularly nifty. The Lindsay Family.

A Whole New World - Nick Pitera

I've never heard this song performed with quite as much... hmmm... how to put this... with such conservation of human resources. Take a look (the first minute is not exciting, but then it gets good, I swear).

Some Not-So-Usual Photos

The people from the website "English Russia" (tagline: just because something cool happens daily on 1/6 of the Earth's surface) have put an interesting photo contest up. Those crazy Russians...

Best Week Ever Blog

VH1 has a fabulous television show called "Best Week Ever", and the show has a fabulous blog to match. My favorite things are the "Best Night Ever"s, which recap moments from primtime television from the night before along with clever commentary. But really, all day long they throw entertaining things into the internet universe, and should be recognized for their work. Check it out and fall in love.

Daft Hands/Daft Bodies/Daft A Cappella

Daft Punk has a song called "Harder Better Faster Stronger" that everyone seems to have a different take on. The song is a little bit annoying, as a warning, but the videos are all entertaining. Skip ahead a little in the first two to get through the wordless intro of the song and onto the good stuff.

Everyday Normal Guy

WARNING: Language NSFW

("Not Safe For Work", for those of you who don't understand acronyms).

Happy CTA Holidays

A coworker of mine sent this to me, and I think it's hilarious. But, honestly, unless you're familiar with the current issues with CTA (Chicago Transit Authority... aka public transportation like buses and the El), this will probably be lost on you.

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there

But St. Nick himself, plump and brimming with joy
Hit a snag on his last stop: Chicago, Illinois

For Rudolph the reindeer, whose nose led the way
Suddenly fell ill and could not guide the sleigh

Santa said “Well, just one option remains
I'll finish my route using CTA trains”

He gathered the reindeer and sack full of toys
To give to Chicagoland good girls and boys

And though well-equipped, CTA card in hand
He'd soon find their trip wouldn't go quite as planned

The train that they rode went from four tracks to one
And wouldn't move fast 'til construction was done

Right then, Santa's joy changed to derision
Saying “It'll take 3 damn hours to reach Clark and Division”

“We normally fly through the air with such speed
But this subway, it moves like a turtle on weed”

The seats were all dirty and beyond repairs
The reindeer stood in urine, which for once wasn't theirs

And Sally's new doll, it would just have to wait
Her Brown Line stop's closed until 2008!

Yes…Santa, he trudged and he slogged and he groaned
It seemed that his Doomsday would not be postponed

But he made a vow on that cold Christmas night
“I must do my job, and do the job right!”

He rode on that Red Line, and then on the Blue
Plus the 36 bus and the Clark 22

He rode on the Orange Line, rode on the Green
From O'Hare to East Side and all homes between

And despite the delays at a few of those places
He did all he could to put smiles on kids' faces

And when he was done, he sighed with relief
Though the trip had been rough, it was worth all the grief

He delivered those presents, he was true to his word
He looked at his watch…..it was January 3rd.

They all flew back home once Rudolph felt better
Mrs. Claus fetched his hubby hot tea and a sweater

Then St. Nick sat down in his favorite chair
And thought all about the entire affair

He hoped that the CTA would succeed
In getting their present: the funds that they need

And I heard him exclaim, as exclaiming's his habit
“Merry Christmas to All! Next time, f**k it, I'll cab it!!!!”

I haven't watched this yet (and I have no idea what it is), but I got it from a coworker... I have a feeling it's worth seeing, just based on the title.

Once

So it just popped into my head how much I loved the movie Once. Especially the music from it. And I felt the need to share it with whomever isn't familiar. It's hard for me to name a favorite without feeling like I'm doing another song a disservice. Maybe "Lies". Or "Fallen from the Sky"... But really, they're all sensational. The two that are most prominently featured in the movie (and therefore have the greatest potential to get an Oscar nomination) are "Falling Slowly" and "When Your Mind's Made Up". And the video for "Broken-Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy" is awesome. Enjoy.

Baby's Named a Bad Bad Thing

For a name-lover like myself, it is truly painful (and confounding) to see what some people name their children. Luckily, there are like-minded others out there who make me feel better about the names of future generations.

There is a woman who has gone through posts on baby name message boards, and then copies the posts to her website and makes snarky remarks about them. And it's brilliant. Seriously, check this out. Because if you're on my side of the fence, it'll make you laugh. And if you're not, maybe this will make you consider hopping over.

YATTA!

Before Hiro screamed it on Heroes, "Yatta!" already had significance for me. Because of this Japanese boy band wearing oversized fig leafs who sing random words of their song in English. Amazing.

Torn Mime

I love Natalie Imbruglia more than I can possibly say. This mime decided to create a routine to her first single, "Torn". And it's delightful. Someday, I will learn this routine. And then I will perform it any time I hear the song. And I will amuse myself to no end.

Torn Mime

ETA: I've also found a version in which my beloved Natalie makes a surprise guest appearance. Best part? She joins in on the miming!

Teen Girl Squad

My favorite part of Homestar Runner is StrongBad's cartoon, Teen Girl Squad. They're delightful. And hilarious.

Juice box?

T33n G1rl Squ4dx0rx!!

Salad Fingers

I'll be honest with you... This is too creepy for me. But I have friends that enjoy it, so I figured I'd pass it on. You can find out for yourself whether it makes your skin crawl.

Virtual Stapler

You know how I said that Hold the Button might be the stupidest website ever invented?

This rivals it...

Virtual Stapler

Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like.

There are three staplers to choose from. Roll over the stapler with your mouse to make it press down, and click on it to make it staple.

They Fight Crime!

He's a hate-fuelled chivalrous gangster looking for 'the Big One.' She's a chain-smoking antique-collecting single mother with her own daytime radio talk show. They fight crime!

Mittens & Snowdrop

This might be my favorite thing in the history of the internet.

I hope that doesn't build it up so high in your mind that you'll be disappointed by it, but I needed to say it.

It's made even better if you have two people reading the text aloud like a script, using any form of proper-sounding British dialect (or if you have me performing both voices for you... that's pretty good, too). It's creepy and hilarious. Love, love, love it.

And there are a collection of disturbing and amusing sequels:

The Foxboro Hot Tubs

A band called “Foxboro Hot Tubs” has released an EP of six songs. The lead singer sounds a great deal like Billie Joe Armstrong, and some people are speculating that this band is really just Green Day experimenting with a new, '60s-inspired sound as a sort of side project. You can download all six songs on this website for free, and then decide what you think.

I like the THC spider the best.

I'm fairly certain that everyone on the planet saw this about three years ago, but it's delightful enough that I'm giving you a way to access it again. Let's dance!

Something about the idea of seeing a horse in a car with a couple of hicks in a drive-thru lane made me start laughing uncontrollably.

Walk Hard

I went to see "Dewey Cox & the Hard Walkers" in concert tonight (aka John C. Reilly in character and his back-up band). Frickin' hilarious stuff. His character is pretty Johnny Cash, but then he one song in the style of Bob Dylan. And, oh yeah, he covered "Rehab" by Amy Winehouse. Hilarious. Anyway, here's a clip from the upcoming movie, Walk Hard.

How do you spell Channukkahh?

In elementary school, I was once ousted from a spelling bee for spelling it "Hanukah". I don't know why a religious event (and proper noun) should've been included in this bee at a public school, but whatever. I still don't know how to spell it. And it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.

Extras: Wizard, you shall not pass!

Sir Ian McKlellan (playing Sir Ian McKlellan) explains the art of acting. From the tv show Extras. This is really a must-see for all theatre people.

The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses

The song is just okay. But I'm loving the video. It's a long, winding daydream.

Walk It Out, Fosse!

The best mash-up I've ever seen. Gwen Verdon and back-up dancers doing a Fosse routine (originally to "Mexican Breakfast" by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, I believe) to the newly added track "Walk It Out" by DJ Unk.

Just delightful.

Dramatic Reading of a Break-Up Letter

I haven't gotten to watch this yet, but an online friend of mine says it's brilliant. And I have a feeling that it is. So I'm posting it.

Mike Huckabee Ad

What you are about to watch is perhaps the best campaign move in the history of campaign moves. No lie. Why? Oh, just watch.

And you know what? It makes me want to look into Mike Huckabee's politics. So look at that. Advertising that worked.

To be honest, I haven't even watched this yet (can't, as I'm at work). But it was sent to me by a very entertaining coworker, so I assume that it will be worth watching. This is A Charlie Brown Christmas as performed by the cast of Scrubs. Enjoy.

It's thought provoking and fun. Check it out!
